MISSION STATEMENT
“To lead Greater Pine Island’s management efforts to prepare for, respond to,
mitigate, and initiate recovery efforts from all disasters.”

VISION STATEMENT:
“To make Greater Pine Island the most prepared and resilient area in unincorporated Lee County, FL.”

GOALS:

  • Foster a culture of preparedness in our community.
  • Bring the community together in times of disaster to more efficiently assist residents.
  • Advance the Greater Pine Island Emergency Task Force’s role in Lee County Emergency Management’s coordination, planning, mitigation, response and recovery plans.
  • Innovate and expand the Greater Pine Island Emergency Task Force’s capacity to communicate with the public before, during and after emergencies.
  • Provide assistance & information immediately after a disaster before off-island agencies arrive.
  • Create the processes and volunteer base to continue this work now and into the future.
  • Reduce the strain and impact on the community in the next disaster, and every other disaster.
  • Reduce the time to full recovery in the next disaster, and every other disaster.

The Beacon of HOPE Leads New Greater Pine Island Emergency Task Force
The Lee County Board of Commissioners has authorized the Beacon of HOPE to work in conjunction with the Lee County Emergency Operations Center for disaster preparedness, mitigation, response and provide coordinated leadership for other groups and volunteers engaged in local recovery efforts through the creation of the Greater Pine Island Emergency Task Force.
The vision of the Greater Pine Island Emergency Task Force is to disaster proof our community as much as possible before one strikes and reduce the time it takes to reach full recovery after one affects the area. The task force’s mission is to lead the Greater Pine Island Area’s emergency management efforts in preparation, response, mitigation, and provide centralized leadership for other groups & volunteers through an organized effort to kickstart recovery from all local disasters.

These business owners & community members will work in coordination with each other under the umbrella of the Beacon of HOPE, serving as the Area Operations Center. The Greater Pine Island Emergency Task Force is not affiliated with long term recovery activities provided by other local organizations.
Everyone interested in participating as a volunteer for disaster activities coordinated by the Greater Pine Island Emergency Task Force is encouraged to fill out a Volunteer Application, find out more information before & after a disaster, and to sign up for a volunteer shift.
